Tourism Australia appoints new Managing Director
The Morrison Government is pleased to welcome the appointment of Phillipa Harrison as Tourism Australia’s new Managing Director.
Minister for Tourism Simon Birmingham said Ms Harrison brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive industry experience with her to the role.
“Over the past three years Phillipa has made a significant and valuable contribution, overseeing operations in 12 countries and managing critical partnerships with airlines and global distribution activities,” Minister Birmingham said.
“Phillipa is an exceptionally well qualified appointment who I am confident will represent and promote Australia with passion, professionalism and pizzazz.
“I trust that in her new role as Managing Director she will continue to bring a strong sense of leadership to Tourism Australia, which is so important in ensuring Australia remains a highly sought-after destination for international travellers.
“Our $143 billion tourism industry is such a vital part of our economy, with nearly 45,000 tourism jobs created over the past six years and 43 cents of every visitor dollar now spent in the regions.
“In such a competitive global market, the sell is tougher than ever, and I know Tourism Australia under the guidance of Ms Harrison will continue to deliver cutting-edge campaigns that put Australia front and centre in the minds of prospective travellers.
“I extend my congratulations to Phillipa and look forward to working closely with her.”
Prior to working at Tourism Australia, Ms Harrison spent six years working for Hamilton Island Enterprises and before that held a variety of senior sales, marketing and product roles at Viator Systems (Sydney), Base Group (Sydney), STA Travel (London), Contiki Holidays (London), and Trailfinders (London).
