Dr Andrew Southcott is a valued friend and colleague who has served with distinction as the Member for Boothby since his election in 1996. Andrew has been a tireless worker for the people of Boothby, a staunch advocate for the interests of South Australia and has made a significant contribution in key areas of federal policy.
In his electorate of Boothby, Andrew can be proud of his achievements in securing funding and the delivery of the Marion Swimming School, The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer and our 2013 election policy that will deliver the upgrade of the Darlington Interchange.
In South Australia, Andrew worked closely with me during my time in the water portfolio to ensure the Murray Darling Basin Plan was secured in the best interests of all South Australians. His advocacy and work for the interests of South Australia’s river system were crucial in securing Coalition support for the Basin Plan.
Similarly, Andrew has been champion of securing naval shipbuilding and submarine contracts for South Australia.
On the national stage, Andrew has used his professional background as a doctor to champion issues such as support for primary health care and has worked closely with successive federal health Ministers.
Andrew’s contribution to our team will be missed, especially his capacity to work for and hold the seat of Boothby. However, I am confident that with a strong candidate and Andrew's support the Liberal Party will retain Boothby and continue to represent the interests of its voters well into the future.
Andrew will have served in the Parliament for 20 years at the next election and his decision to leave at this time is entirely understandable. My family and I join with all members of the Liberal family in wishing Andrew, Kate, Georgina and Henry every happiness and success in the future.
