A new independent report has identified a rise in demand across the globe for skilled professionals in aged care, transport and logistic, tourism and child care sectors.

Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham said the KPMG report ‘The Global Demand for Skills’ had identified that Australia’s training providers were well-placed to meet the needs of employers in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Latin America who face skill shortages.

“This important and comprehensive report will assist the Turnbull Government and the International Educational Council in shaping future training and education opportunities for Australia,” Minister Birmingham said.

“China, India and Indonesia are experiencing growing demand for skilled labour in construction, aged care and tourism sectors which offers significant opportunities for Australia.

“Australia is well positioned to particularly take advantage of the identified needs of the Chinese and Indian middle class and their demand for service-driven skills. Australia has a strong international reputation for supplying many of these service-driven skills including in the aged care, child care and health sectors.

Minister Birmingham said the KPMG report particularly highlighted employers in transport and logistics, tourism, construction and care services will continue to face skill shortages.

“The report gives our training providers more evidence to expand into international markets by offering a range of training options to suit the needs of industries,” Minister Birmingham said.

“The Turnbull Government commissioned this report to find out where the international deficiencies lie and how we can increase our market share in the international market. We will now work with the International Education Council to act on these recommendations.”

The International Education Council will consider this report and provide recommendations to the Government to better support Australian training providers contributing to international education exports.
