Lower, fairer and simpler taxes for all working Australians, stronger national security laws, improving drought support for Australian farmers and support for 300,000 apprenticeships through the new Skilling Australians Fund are just some of the features of the 43 pieces of legislation the Turnbull Government has steered through the Senate in the three sitting weeks since this year’s Budget.

Manager of Government Business in the Senate Simon Birmingham said the Turnbull Government was focused on creating a stronger economy to create more jobs and guarantee the essential services Australians rely on.

“We’re working closely with the Senate to deliver on our plan for Australians,” Senator Birmingham said.

“The depth of our plan is reflected in the volume and content of legislation the Senate has considered and passed in just three weeks, on top of Senate Estimates commitments.”

Senator Birmingham said the Government had also worked to secure passage of important legislation to provide transparency about foreign influence in Australia as well as the establishment of the National Redress Scheme for institutional child sexual abuse.

“This past sitting period has also highlighted the priority our plan puts on keeping Australians safe,” Senator Birmingham said.

“We’re grateful to the various Senators who have worked with us on so many important pieces of legislation, sometimes in the face of the Labor Party’s heckling and pig-headed opposition.

“In contrast to Labor’s risky, high taxing alternatives the Turnbull Government has demonstrated that it continues to get done the things required to keep our economy strong, create even more jobs, balance the budget, deliver the essential services Australia relies upon and keep Australians safe.”
